What Is The Softest Yarn?

When developing yarn projects, choosing a yarn can be difficult. You could be aiming for a very rough texture, or maybe a soft one. Either way, choosing the right texture for your piece will determine how your piece will come out.

You may be creating a baby blanket, gloves, sweater, etc. It's always good to consider the specifics of how you want your piece to come out. From how it fits, how it feels on the skin, the stretchiness, and durability.

In this article, I'll be going over some of the softest yarn you can buy.

Best Soft Yarn?

Cashmere: Ultimately the softest yarn, and one of the most luxurious forms of wool. Priced at an expensive rate, cashmere is a very silky-smooth fiber used in a multitude of clothing items.

  • High Breathability
  • Delicate
  • Retains Heat Well
  • Fluffy

Silk: Silk is a very natural fiber made from silkworms. It's highly soft and can be slippery to work with. It's often compared with wool as they both share some of the same properties.

  • Expensive
  • Strong
  • Retains Heat Well
  • Inelastic

Baby Alpaca: Very soft and light on the skin. Baby alpaca wool has a very low impact on the environment, and is also a biodegradable resource.

  • High Breathability
  • Retains Heat Well
  • Hypoallergenic
  • Low Water Retention

Yarn Weights

Yarn weights can determine how thin or thick you want your piece to be. It's another very important factor to consider when choosing yarn.
